Map contest Empty Map contest

Post by Morgoth of Udun Thu 15 Dec 2011, 11:11 pm

Just read on newerth.com that there's a map contest being organised following the upcoming release of XR 1.0.

Prizemoney is $100. Maps need to have reached 'online'-status by 31 December.

Topic here: http://www.newerth.com/smf/index.php/topic,14252.0.html

How about we put some collective effort into this and get xr_th on the map? Very Happy
I'm in!
(*looks hopeful, though slightly desperate, at Crashday* (or any other proper map-maker :p)

xD Is xr_th your hopeful suggestion of a map name, or is there actually a xr_th map that was started at some point in the past? (I don't remember reading anything about a xr_th map o_0, I only recall th_training)

However, that map contest on newerth is very promising, with XR 1.0 and a lot of new props/features already explained by the developers, it will be interesting to see new maps coming out soon for XR 1.0.

>_< I like to be creative in making maps, but making a map that is balanced for actual competitive gameplay (no exploits, fair terrain for both teams, etc...), well, lets just say a lot of Sav players would begin to fear the name TNaismith if I ever started attempting to release competitive maps. xD

"OH NOES! IT'S ONE OF THOSE HORRIBLE MAPS FROM TNAISMITH! NOOOO! VOTE-CHANGE! BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE AND WE PLAY CRAPPY MAP! DD:"

The one thing mapping requires the most is time - time can be used for learning how things work and love for detail. Love for detail is very important to present a map appropriately to your testers and players. Many maps outright fail, because I. their description is horrible II. their layout looks absurd III. the preview picture of the map turns one off or IV. the level of detail is too low, it looks too plain. Occassionally a map is also discarded for V. lag issues, such as when people put a lot of effort into the detail, but forget to place occluders.

As you can see, if only you spend some time on it, Epic Blood, you can eradicate 5 factors, which are about 99% of the reasons, why maps do not get played or even accepted. This is normally a general rule for all games^^

Try your luck! It won't do TH any harm to have even more creative people!^^
