What is the IRC Chat Mod?

The IRC Chat Mod is a Savage XR modification specifically made just for TH clan members that you can download into your game. It gives you the ability to type replies to the TH Clan IRC Channel (irc.freenode.net #SavageTH) while playing the game. People that know what IRC is and use it already can skip straight to the download link a few paragraphs below.

What is IRC?

Internet Relay Chat. Wikipedia (Link) says "Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a form of real-time Internet text messaging." You can think of it like a chatbox, but you have a lot more options and freedom -- it much bigger than a normal chatbox. IRC is used world-wide by different gaming groups, real life organizations, friends, families, businesses, and almost anyone you can think of. It is a huge network that is specifically created to let people communicate.

Alright, I'm willing to try this. How do I install the mod?

1. Download: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5095198/savage7.s2z
2. Place 'savage7.s2z ' into C:\Program Files\Savage XR\game folder.

How do I use the IRC Chat Mod?

1. Go to your 'Game' options screen.


2. Look at the 'Player IRC Key' and assign a key. (Bug: After you press assign a key, it won't show up in the box. But everything will still work like normal) When you press this key, you will be allowed to send messages to the IRC Channel (#SavageTH at irc.freenode.net)


3. Make sure you are using the 'Smoke' HUD. (Bug: None of the other HUDs work with the IRC mod at the moment, they all have the IRC text in hard-to-read places.)


4. You can type a message to the IRC Channel from either the lobby screen, or from in-game. Notice in the second screenshot, you can see IRC text appearing in the top-left corner.



5. To type a message to the IRC channel, press the 'Player IRC key' that you assigned earlier, and you will see something appear in the chatbox like below:


6. Type a message, press enter, and you will see your text message appear in the top-left corner. Anyone else logged onto the IRC channel will be able to read it, and write replies to you.

Are there other ways to talk?

Indeed there is! You can download programs called 'IRC clients' like mIRC, ChatZilla and HydraIRC which allow you to connect to IRC servers and channels. You can see + reply to messages from other people. This is what my mIRC program showed when I typed a message into the #SavageTH channel a few minutes ago:


You can also connect through websites that let you connect to IRC within your internet browser (Means you don't have to download or install any programs). http://www.mibbit.com/ is a popular one.

Here at TH, we have embedded our own IRC browser -- which means you can chat to other members on the channel while they are in-game! --> TH Website - IRC Chat




What is the point of this mod?
Ever since Savage XR coded in the new features of IRC communication, the chance to communicate from both in-game and from an outside location like a website or IRC client became a much more realistic possibility. This mod is mostly for people that already know what IRC is and how to use it. IRC is something used across the entire world of internet -- and most likely you will encounter it someday later in your life as well, if not now.

With the help of BEARD, DieOrFail, and Rumo...we release this mod and hope to see anyone interested using the mod to regularly chat with us on #SavageTH, at irc.freenode.net

I have to add a few things, maybe I missed them while reading...

This mod works NOT with rMod. This mod works NOT with SFE. (Maybe it does, but SFE is officially NOT supported)

And it would be really great if all of you download it and try it out!
