Hey guys, everytime a guy applies I ask him what his favourite books and films are, here is an extra topic for books and literature in general...

Ok I start:

My favourite book is "The Little Prince" by Antoine de St.-Exupéry. The book is maybe known as a book for children, but there is so much more behind!
It´s about a pilot, who has an accident with his plain in the desert, and there he meets the little prince.

The little prince is from another planet, a very small one, he is alone and decides to travel around and visit other planets. He meets many people, most chapters are very short, because he leads just a conversation with them and then leaves the planet.

When you read this book you have to think about things that are really important and those ones, which only seem important.
I would say it´s the most beautifull book and it really touches your spirit. I had some great feelings while reading it, had to laugh, had to tear.
A fantastic book =)

I love the Redwall books too! ^.^ There is humor, funny stories (hares always being hungry and all the food xD), and very honest, meaningful life messages too. But mostly it's a fun kind of...swashbuckling adventure involving heroic woodland creatures against evil vermin (rats, stoats, ferrets, foxes, etc). Many times I've read the books and wished I could be a character in one of those stories, there is so much...down-to-earth living that goes on there. xD

Redwall definitely one my favorites, all of them. I have other books to though, will post more about them later. =D Nice topic! ^^

Very good humor, but not easy to read and understand.

Yeah, Hohlbein is great, have read lots of his works as well. Great atmosphere and stories. The Little Prince is wonderful as well, very nice to read and with a very deep meaning.
My all-time favorites are The Lord of the Rings, Faust I and Ночной дозор, Night Watch in english. The first is kind of the founder of modern fantasy, written in the first half and the middle of the 20th century, which is far before most fantasy novels. The author is Tolkien of course, I hope I don't tell anyone something new^^
The Second is German Classic, a really well-known, but underrated book, written by Goethe in rhymes and with a fascinating story as well as a deep meaning.
The third are actually four novels, the other three are, (roughly translated^^) Day Watch, Eternity Watch and Twilight Watch. Oh man, in Russian that sounds much better^^. They are fantasy in our time, with an interesting system of morale and magic, and the eternal struggle between Darkness and Light. It's like an interesting and practical philosophic text turned into a fantasy-novel, without loosing any of the ideas behind it.

When you like really good fantasy, read the books of Bernhard Hennen and Karl-Heinz Witzko!
Witzko is one of my favourite authors, he has a really strange and great humor in his books.

I like this guy called Bernard Cornwell.
It's like, "war" books about a warrior that has a specific story based on real History facts.

That's the kind of book I like.

You all now Samuel Langhorne Clemens aka "Mark Twain", do you? Just a little tip Wink
Great stories, you learn much about cultures and he writes in such a lovely manner, it´s very beautiful. ( I hope everyone of you read Tom Sawyer... xD )

I don´t know many about war books, but in my opinion films are better to produce a good effect for this theme^^

Hennen and Witzko are new names to me too. I've definitely read some of the Mark Twain books, and the Bernard Cornwell books are no stranger to me either -- my high school teacher gave us monthly books from him to read as part of our social studies course. His books definitely provide an interesting, realistic look at life way back before we got electricity and things like computers and internet. Back in the days when swords, kings, spears, and such were part of everyday life.

xD I should read some more of those soon!

It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.

What does this evoke?

idk if I have to read sth to understand this too, but I think that, for example, its not true how human world explains many things eg power of sun, love, power of nature etc. Its kinda religious though so it might not be true... And also (I think) the world around you is not only what you see or hear with eyes but there are mystical beings or powers which you simply cant spot with poor human eyes...
PS: this is just and only my point of view and my explanation Very Happy
