I just read "The Road" by Cormac McCarty and it really touched me. It was not a long book at all, 306 pages or so, but still EPIC Very Happy

ATM I'm reading "The manga-bible". It is so catchy ;-)

My favourite books are the harry potter series. Well this perhaps sounds a bit strange but this are the only books which i read in my spare time my whole life. And i rly liked all of them except of the 7th part. That one was a bit boring. The first part I read in german and also in english. So if you have some time and want to read a book I would recommend harry potter Wink

Harry Potter...Way too overrated in my opinion. Not bad, that's true, and the first 3 or 4 books are really nice, the fifth one isn't bad too. But they are nothing...special. Maybe I was too old when I've read them, they're designed for younger children, or maybe I've read too much other books.
I don't know, but there are lots of better books in this world. Wink
You'll notice it if you read more Smile

School books are mostly boring, with a few exceptions like books from Brecht or Dürrenmatt Smile

Please excuse my doublepost, but I want to revive this topic a bit =)

In the last few months I re/discovered some great writers.
"The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald became my favourite book, it's a kind of a tragic love story, Fitzgeralds style is just... amazing. Although I read it in German he is famous for his language.

Another one is Ernest Hemingway (most of you know him ;-) ) When you got "The old man and the sea" at home, read it! And if not, buy it! Very Happy
Believe me, this book is vey exceptional.
And of course his famous sixwordstory: "For Sale - Baby shoes, never worn" is genius ( I think ENVY posted it once =) )

(wrote this post in Estonian and then realized thats no right Very Happy ..haven't got used to the english part yet Smile )

I haven't had much time to read lately as school takes up most of it. But as this semester isn't that busy then I'm planning to read all the classics again.

I like Bronte sisters "Wuthering heights" I think the name is written like that in English.
Definately want to read (again) Remarque "Arch of Triumph" and Bulgakov "The Master and Margarita". Actually i have a really long list but when i have more time, i will talk more about this.

I have also read the trilogy of "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" several times.
As well as the Harry Potter books. To be honest, I haven't read the last one. I think too much time passed before the last book came out and it didn't interest me anymore. But until I was about 16, i think, just loves Harry Potter books.

Welcome Jerramy, I've done some quick-google research on the books you mentioned. "Blood Work", "The Stranger" and "Hannibal" don't seem to be my type of books, and "Love in the Time of Cholera" didn't seem to be quite my thing either. However, "The Hunger Games" did catch my eye, the wikipedia entry is (here)

Wikipedia exerpt:
The Hunger Games is a young-adult science fiction novel written by Suzanne Collins. It was originally published on September 14, 2008, by Scholastic.[1] It is the first book of the Hunger Games trilogy.[2] It introduces sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem where North America once existed. This is where a powerful government working in a central city called the Capitol holds power. In the book, the Hunger Games are an annual televised event where the Capitol chooses one boy and one girl from each district to fight to the death. The Hunger Games exist to demonstrate not even children are beyond the reach of the Capitol's power.

I'm wondering whether the boy and girl end up overcoming this 'fight to the death' event that is forced onto them. If they do (and they both live), then this might be a book I will indeed look into reading. xD However, if the ending of the book takes on a... more gloomy/depressing ending (whatever that may be), then perhaps I'll politely pass it up. ^^
