Savage: Rebirth

Well, I think the April Fool's post has out-lived its shock value. I had hoped for a full 24 hours, but almost 12 hours is pretty good considering. Phoenix-Scout, don't take it personal. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and your name happens to tie in with our whole theme.
Yes, Savage: Rebirth is an actual project. No, it's not a hoax or a joke. It's been in heavy development for about 7 months now, and though incomplete has most of the major features that were planned. I hadn't aimed for a full front-page announcement of the project, but I was contacted by a lot of excited people so I think it would be unfair not to make this post.
The goal of SR is not only to modernize a great game, and increase the playerbase, but also to go "back to the roots" with streamlined, smoother game-play. We aim to make Savage more approachable for new players, but still have the same fun-factor for vets.
We've trimmed off all the excess- there's no TS or Samurai support, and the unfinished or "un-Savagey" (submarine conning tower?) XR props have been removed or will be removed as they are found. We've removed gamescript completely in favor of python-based scripting. We've continued work on Yeti, the new editor that was originally slated for XR release. SR is not compatible with any previous versions of Savage, that means clients and servers.
Of course, there are new unit models and new prop models that are all amazing, and slaid and Epoks have been doing a great job and a huge amount of work to get those out the door. You can check out slaid's art dump here, and all the 2D (and some 3D) concept art is the work of Epoks. BEARD and DieOrFail have been scripting up an entirely new GUI in python and creating Yeti, which are almost entirely python-driven. Although you can't see it, Mefix has subtly directed the art style from shadows and Tirza keeps us in line, and makes sure SR is exactly what the vets expect.
So, that's a little summary of the project, and I hope it answers a lot of the questions that I have been asked. Please go sign up and support the project, and expect more in the coming weeks.Savage: Rebirth
PS. They told me to put in a comparison shot of the old lego so here you go:
(yes, this part is an April Fools joke)

Just wanted to inform you all about this project, as two of us are working on it, Rostner and me.
Take a look, register on the forums, write some stuff, comment and watch the screenshots.
(PS: Savage Rebirth has nothing to do with the XR Dev team or with the Newerth staff)

Re: Savage: Rebirth
Sounds cool
Will you have to download SR again, or is it an update for XR...?

The graphic and nature layout looks horrible....
IMO, no offence if you worked on that part.

Well, the nature and props are exactly the same as in XR.
But don't forget, this is still in alpha version. The gui isn't done yet (graphical user inteface, HP bar for example).
What do you mean by "layout"?

The characters are just awesome!
Just look at those amazing models: http://3dapathy.com/?p=78
And the nature is exactly the same as it is in Savage XR right now

Re: Savage: Rebirth
It looks good but I got to ask why? Now the savage player base will be split between two incompatible platforms.
Also, has S2Games given them the source code/rights to Savage? I know the newerth guys had it but wasn't aware anyone else was allowed to use it.
I know XR has been wayyyyy too long in development but it's really not that far off IMO
Hmmmm
