What is savage XR?

In this i aim to cover what what exactley XR is, some of the advantages, some of the disadvantages, and other niblets. Quote taken from http://www.newerth.com/?id=xr

The the objective of the XR development team has been and is to improve Savage 1 without modifying the now classical game play and balance of the game, avoiding decent in our community over people's hearty felt opinions on what balance changes should be made.

System Requirements

Before downloading Savage XR please make sure you have the latest graphics card drivers installed from your vendors website. You can find Nvidia drivers here and ATI (AMD) drivers here.

To be able to play Savage XR you will need to meet at least the Minimum System Requirements bellow. The Minimum System Requirements is suggested for playing servers with less than 20 players. For a smooth gaming experience on 64+ player server we suggest your system meets the Recommended System requirements.

Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP Vista or Linux
Controls: Mouse and Keyboard
CPU: 600 MHz processor
Memory: 128 MB RAM
Drives: 700 MB Hard Drive space for installation

Controls: 3 button mouse with a scroll wheel CPU: 2.4Ghz CPU or better

Oki that all sounds good so whats the problem?

Savage XR is a on going project. Just like SEP was. As a result at the moment there are a few bugs that people DO not like. This is pushing people away from XR

Also some users are reporting grim FPS compared to the SFE version. The only way of knowing is to DL for yourself.

In my oppionion FPS affected. However not to the extent made out on the newerth forums. In time all the FPS bugs will be fixed so give them a chance k? if a version dont work then wait till the next rc this may have fixed all the problems you were having!

Well i use Rmod too..and the max fps i can get is 50 (in duels) in games i get 25-45..

If i instal XR i get what?5fps? Crying or Very sad

It's true that Savage XR has visual improvements, like the pixel shaders, which drop FPS. BUT ONLY IF YOU USE IT! Just disable shaders, sky, sun, grass, and whatever you want, and then you'll be back to SFE, from a performace point of view.

True Daemon. But i still cant understand why a Dual Core (2x 2.71), 2 GB Ram, and a GeForce 8500 GT (512 Ram) cant run shaders with more than average 50-60 fprs =|

8500 GT? Dude... no offense, really, but that is NOT a gaming card. Not a good video card for running most anything, let alone high load, pixel shader enabled mass multiplay online 1st person shooters. It has half of everything 8600GT has, for like $5 less. Yes it runs other games acceptably, without shaders. Even so, 50-60 fps is quite enough for a shaders enabled FPS, don't you think? If you still it's not, just disable them and that's it.

This is the default VGA chart o tomshardware.com, with top 100 video cards. 8500 does not make the cut.

But i've tested XR without shaders on a Sempron LE 2200+ and 8600GT and it ran without a hitch, with 100+ FPS. Same results as SFE. The non-shaders rendering was not touched, it's SFE's.

well other games such as Crysis/Asssasin's Creed/ Cod MW2 were running smoother than XR with Shaders.

Yes, because they are taking advantage of new hardware capabilities and instructions. These things are not readily available for everyone without a games production company, with $$$ to buy development SDKs from video card manufacturers and $$$ to buy dozens of different configured PCs to test the games on and $$$ to adjust and tweak an engine to make the most out of it ;D.

All we have is some dudes doing it on their spare time, with generic shader implementations, without much testing and optimizing available to them.

I've finally downloaded XR! xD U can congratulate me Very Happy

The newest skin is too hard for me so I made it old (like in SFE). But the minimap is so ugly! Could I make it old like in SFE? How? The icons of garrison and sub are so shallow when I look at map to spawn! I can't see them. And the icons of players are ugly either on minimap.

And the last question: how can I look player's ID? For example if I need to kick player by ID

Worst idea ever. SFE is hindering savage 1 developement. When I changed my GUI for the first time I sucked couple of games but after that I got used to it.
